An avalanche of children emerges, engaging in something between a competitive game and strict military training. Coordinated rhythm and clash of strategies between two teams merge into a single organism, that grows, expands and transforms into plant-like forms.
This imaginary nature emerges from data and model training based on the film Attack and Defence Game of Japanese Children (1941-1945). This film was used by the propaganda department of the Japanese military administration during the Pacific War, when the former Dutch East Indies (Indonesia now) were occupied by Japan from 1942-1945. Soon after the Japanese capitulation in August 1945 the film was confiscated by the returning Dutch authorities in Indonesia and shipped to the Netherlands. Later in 2020, the film was released by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision after research in cooperation with NHK Enterprises (Japanese Public Broadcaster). David Serra Navarro (Kenneth Russo) uses this film as fertile soil for AI seeds resulting in this art and research work.
